The Department of Architecture, ABU Zaria

Since its founding, the Zaria School of Architecture has shaped the practice and teaching of architecture across Nigeria and beyond.

The story

Where it began

The Department of Architecture at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, grew out of the university's post-independence commitment to training Nigerian professionals for the country's rapidly expanding built environment.

Generations of students have passed through its studios, learning a way of working that is rooted in climate, culture, craft and the earthen building traditions of northern Nigeria.

This page is maintained by the Foundation. Detailed records, dates and archival photographs are being added as they are verified.

A school that shaped a profession

Graduates of the Zaria School of Architecture lead practices, faculties, public institutions and studios across the world. The Foundation exists to preserve that record and to invest in the students who follow.
